In this article, I am going to show you how to make a photo lightbox from scratch. You’ll need some tools that are easy to find at your local hardware store. This is an interesting topic as there are not many tutorials online about how people can build their own DIY light boxes.

Design a plan. First things first, you will need to design your plan for where and how you are going to build the box as well as what tools you require. In this step, it is better if you have some sort of experience with building things so that even if it doesn’t turn out perfect on the first try, at least there won’t be any major issues from a lack of knowledge or poor planning.

For example: If I don’t know much about carpentry then I should go online and watch tutorials before starting my project. Design your layout – Using pencil and paper sketch out what type of layout would work best based on the space which you have available in whatever room/location that this lightbox is supposed to.

Check out these steps below and then start building your DIY lightbox! And take great pictures of your favorite items without spending too much money.

This DIY lightbox cost $3.70 and took 10 minutes to build. The tools you will need are:

  • Cardboard box
  • Packing tape
  • Cutter
  • white tissue paper
  • white poster board

To start, cut the top flaps off of your box with a knife. Then use about an inch on each side to create three more pieces that are jagged and messy looking so they don’t look perfect anymore!

Step 2: Trim and tape the tissue paper

Tissue paper is an easy and affordable way to soften the ambient light in your lightbox. Cut it so it’s about twice as wide as you’d like for cover, then tape two layers together with masking or painter’s grip Tape securely around edges.

Step 3: Drape the poster board for a white background

Drape the poster board for a white background

Create a white background for your photography by cutting a poster board to the width of your box and taping it on top with duct tape. Make sure that there is at least an inch or two past where you want this image projected so it extends outside the container without being close enough so as not to have any corners poking out when facing forward in front of our camera lens!

Your lightbox is done!

Now you can take some photos of your products with the lightbox and it will look great! Place the box near natural light, like a bright window. If no windows are available then try using one or more desk lamps for extra brightness on top of what’s already present in an area. For this example, we just needed enough sunlight so our camera could easily capture clear images without any additional assistance from lighting.
